Roads, Vehicle and Property Maintenance - Part Time
The Town of Emmet is seeking an individual to complete a variety of road, vehicle and property maintenance tasks. The individual will be responsible for regular maintenance of town roads and right of ways. This includes roadways, culverts and signage. In addition, this position is responsible for performing basic maintenance of vehicles, equipment, and town properties. The individual will work approximately 35-40 hours per week. Additional hours and scheduling flexibility may be required during emergencies and to complete snow plowing and winter road care. Expectations
· Complete a pre-employment physical and drug screen and background check.
· A clean driving record.
· Attend annual OSHA/Msha Safety training
· Operate a dump truck, snowplow, grader, tractor and mowing equipment as needed to maintain and improve Town of Emmet property and the roads and highway system within the township.
· Service and maintain equipment and vehicles owned by the Town of Emmet, including scheduling routine service and inspections as required.
· Have knowledge of road maintenance requirements and be able to recognize and solve any condition or safety problem related to equipment, road conditions, and other road maintenance needs.
· Submit annually a recommendation of road work to be considered for road maintenance for budget planning.
· Maintain all record keeping as required, e.g. service to vehicles, equipment, fuel, safety training, training of part time roads and maintenance employees, repairs to equipment/vehicles.
· Serves as the custodian of the Town Hall, building and grounds.
· Set up of hall for Board Meetings/Hall Rentals
· Cleaning of hall/bathrooms/kitchen pre-post hall rentals when the hall is rented.
· Maintain Town of Emmet Cemetery property and plots.
· Supervise and delegate as required, any maintenance of Town property or grounds if done by an outside service or town employee
· Hold or be able to obtain CDL within 90 days of hire
· Knowledgeable of Emergency Government Services
· Train town employees on safe use of all power tools, vehicles, and equipment used as well as maintain annual safety training documentation (initial and annual) per OSHA requirements.
· Provide training on Safety Standards per OSHA to all town roads and maintenance employees and Trash/Recycling operations (baler).
· Have mechanical knowledge and be knowledgeable in the maintenance of vehicles and equipment with emphasis in diesel mechanics and engine work is helpful.
· Agree to random drug testing as required for this position.
· Willing and able to operate equipment used for snow plowing; utilizing salt/sand, operate a grader and/or loader tractor, in order to maintain town roads, town parking lot, during the winter season.
· Availability to work at any hour of the day or night in order to maintain safe, passable, roads during weather events (snow, ice, heavy rain/washouts, etc.).
· Knowledge of welding and safety requirements is a plus.
· Knowledge of legal road limits for assigned equipment and vehicles where applicable.
· Knowledge of Diggers Hotline, utility markings, clearances and rules for safe equipment operation in close proximity to underground and overhead utility facilities.
· Knowledge of State regulations regarding highways/roads.
· Maintain the town hall, equipment, shop and keep it in an orderly manner to ensure personal safety and the safety of others who use the hall, shop, buildings and equipment.

o Procedures related to minimize hazards,
o Use of and maintenance of Hard Hats
o Noise exposure hazards
o Recognize Hazardous Materials and proper handling and storage of such, including liquified petroleum gasses.
· Knowledge of Safety Data Sheets and maintain current SDS manual.
· Knowledge in the use of fire extinguishers, as well as maintain annual service checks and monthly checks as required by law.
· Must be able to lift 60 pounds and work in various weather conditions.
· Experience accessing the internet and use of basic software applications is a plus.
Workplace Hours
· 35-40 hours per week
o More hours in Spring/Summer
o Less hours in Winter
o Availability to plow snow/maintain safe roadways at all hours, on-call during winter.
o On call at all times (e.g. Spring/Fall rains/road washouts)
o Typical workday schedule is 6:00a-2:30p, some flexibility with start/end time depending on the needs of the township.
